it was fat tuesday yesterday. i went to a mardi gras party at the deadwood. i dressed up. i entered a costume contest...and lost (again!). there was a $100 dollar prize that was upped to $200 at the last minute. man, that would've been wicked rad to win some cash. people kept telling me all night that i should win and that they'd hoot and holler for me on stage when the time came...but i think they were all too drunk to do anything once the actual costume contest came to be which was after midnight. super lame...but actually the super lamest thing was that the guy that won was just one of those people who wear the rental costume. last night it was a creepy clown outfit which was really just an oversized mask and clown pants. at least he got his rental money back...and then some.

arrrgh! actually i just wanted to put up a pic as an example of the lameness that the dude was wearing but i'm pretty sure i found the actual costume. and the last time the 'wood had a contest the non-creative rental won as well. not cool. anyway, here's the pic of the freaky clown.

freaky, yes, but deserving of a prize...i think not. oh well. i figure that we should just insist on a CREATIVE costume contest next year. that'd be special.

speaking of special, here's darcy and i in our costumes. darcy is in her super darcy crimefighter/server of cold beer costume and i wear my va-va-va voom dress with red plummage. the bottom part of the dress that you can't see is the neat part--it flares out in black and whiteness. darcy was in the contest too. we should've beat up that dumb clown.

i love this picture of darcy:

me, looking a wee bit nuts:

went to the grizzley bear/dirty projectors show at pica-gabe's last night with deadwood mitch. it was a pleasant evening. ate at masala. it was an early show so it was only around 9:30 when it was over so we went back to the deadwood and drank beers. darcy was supposed to come to the show but she was in hangoverland.

the show was really good overall. the dirty projectors were okay. but grizzley bear was really quite lovely. i would recommend that you see them live. mitch hadn't heard of them before but felt compelled to buy their yellow house album. excellente.

give, give, give 'til it hurts.

my relationships are important to me. of course they are. but, there are certain days when i acknowledge it moreso than usual and i feel, feel, feel exceptionally good-spirited in knowing what i know.

tomorrow i will begin the factory job...at 6 AM. ugh. i can't say that i'm too excited but it's work and it'll do. i highly doubt it'll be inspiring work but if i think of it in terms of its daily monetary value then i'm sure i can manage. twelve hour shifts. ugh!

i gots to save up for one of these chains, so i gots to do what i gots to do.

hey, it's february. yay february!

actually, feb hasn't really ever been that good to me (it's cold! brrrr!). plus, when i'm single it's a constant reminder that i am single. the barrage of red and pink in the form of roses, boxes of heart-shaped candies, shiny "i love you" balloons, hallmark cards, and all that silliness. it's the aisle i go to great lengths to avoid when i'm in a supermarket and it's all ridiculous because i don't even like valentine's day. even if i were with someone all that crap that i guess i'm supposed to like just doesn't mean that much to me. sure, i like flowers and would like to get some for a change but not the humdrumitty of red roses. i'd actually prefer a potted plant so that it could actually live longer than 3-4 days and not depress me once the petals started sloughing off and turning brown. a homemade card/drawing or a potted plant...yup, i'd probably get teary-eyed and definitely say, "awwwww"...moreso if it weren't valentine's day.

i think i'm actually more excited about groundhog's day each year. what a goofy celebration. i love it. it's basically a day where people poke at a groundhog which somehow equals a weather prediction. it's so stupid, it's great. poor little sleepy animal. i know i hate being awakened from a restful slumber but i can't imagine how it might feel to be awakened and held up in front of a crowd of thousands in the cold, televised, and shoved back into a cage wondering what the hell just happened.

the drawing is cute. the real life picture is rather frightening.

i will eat your brains!
and all your valentine's day candy!
